"Chancellor" was the title given to a high dignitary of the Catholic Church which, since the Merovingian dynasty of kings until the eleventh or twelfth century witnessed the sovereign for legal matters. The fact that a man of the Church has been entrusted with that office said the current suit that wear and judges in general, the suit professional people to justice. The Chancellor is responsible for an office devernue life in the sixteenth century. After this time the Chancellor was at times a prelate, sometimes a layman. The Chancellor had particular task to affix the royal seal on the edicts of where that other name of "Attorney". The revolution put an end to this charge. The name, however, was maintained through use at the point that currently the Minister of Justice bears the title "Attorney" and in the language of the Palace, the Ministry of Justice is called "Chancellery".
Note that in the language of French diplomats the "Chancellor" is the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, no doubt that the Chancellors of the pre-revolutionary era also marked the Seal Royal diplomatic conventions.
